In past years, putting together this roundup of winter events meant previewing things like outdoor festivals celebrating the snow, ice bars at restaurants and resorts, and the annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships at the Camden Snow Bowl. And then the pandemic came knocking, putting our ability to gather on ice. But there are still plenty of ways to make the most of winter.
Many of those events have been postponed for a year, which means this year’s slate looks a lot different. But will that stop us hardy Mainers from celebrating winter? Heck, no! Pandemic or not, we’ve still got full moons, starry skies and other reasons to skip in our Bean Boots (though some more snow would help a lot). So, let us forge ahead (safely) with what’s left of winter and make the mos

Electricity restored to most customers after Saturday’s storm
Southern Maine got drenched, while sections of western and northern Maine saw up to 13 inches of snow.

Most of the Central Maine Power and Versant Power customers who lost electricity during Saturday’s storm had their service restored by Sunday night.
As of 6 p.m., only 22 CMP customers were still without power, a significant decrease from the peak outage of 7,500 customers. Versant Power, which serves more than 160,000 customers in eastern and northern Maine, was reporting just 25 outages across its network.

To the Editor:
Each session the Maine legislature allows all senators and representatives to submit bills for consideration. It is an opportunity for our representatives to advocate for the needs of their constituents, to move economic policy for their region, influence tax policy, promote education and health care.
This session the deadline for submitting bills was Dec 18. It was with great interest that I looked forward to the release of the bill titles our legislators have submitted in representing the needs of the people of Franklin County. The list of titles is below. The wording of the bills has not yet been printed.

Due to someone associated with the Rangeley Town Office testing positive for Covid-19 the Town Office is closed to the public from December 31, 2020 until January 11, 2021. As a result of the office closure the January 4, 2021 Board of Selectmen’s meeting was conducted via Zoom. District 17 State Senator Russell Black briefly joined the Zoom meeting to update the Selectmen on a legislative proposal to expand the number of Franklin County Commissioners from three to five. An increase in the number of Commissioners would provide towns that pay a high County tax such as Carrabassett Valley and Rangeley an opportunity for greater representation in County affairs. The Selectmen agreed to send a letter of support for this legislation in the near future.
