The China-Russia moonshot is one more reason for Biden to rethink his Putin strategy
Call it lunar politics.
This week Roscosmos, the Russian space agency,
signed an agreement with the Chinese National Space Administration to create an International Scientific Lunar Station “with open access to all interested nations and international partners.” It was the most dramatic sign yet that Moscow sees its space future with China and not the United States, further underscoring its growing strategic alignment with Beijing.

Russia and China s space agencies signed an agreement this week to create an International Scientific Lunar Station.
Russia also apparently rebuked NASA s invitation to join the Artemis project that aims to put people back on the moon by 2024.
That follows a quarter of century of U.S.-Russian space cooperation, launched by those who dreamed of post-Cold War reconciliation.
Russia s growing strategic bond with China is the latest evidence the Western approach to Moscow has failed to produce the desired results.
Russian and China announced this week that they would partner for a lunar research station. The announcement was made via the Russian space agency Roscosmos in
feed to stay on top of the news.
A memorandum of understanding on the project was signed by Dmitry Rogozin, general director of Russia’s Roscosmos State Corporation, and Zhang Kejian, head of China’s National Space Administration, on Tuesday.
The two countries said they will use their collective experience in space research to develop a roadmap for the construction of the lunar base. Details of what the proposed station will look like are not clear at this time.
“The International Lunar Research Station is a comprehensive scientific experiment base that can carry out multi-disciplinary and multi-objective scientific research activities such as the moon s own exploration and utilization, moon-based observation, basic scientific experiment and technical verification on the lunar surface or lunar orbit, and long-term autonomous operation,” the Chinese National Space Administration said Tuesday.
