kings island opens when and do i need a mask

This story is part of The Enquirer’s ongoing coverage tracking the region’s economic recovery efforts. Kings Island is set to open to season pass holders this weekend and to the general public on May 15. Park officials are counting on visitors to flood back to the Mason amusement park after many stayed away during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. They believe pent-up demand to get out, a hunger to return to normalcy and growing confidence from mass vaccinations will shut down the beleaguered industry’s own roller coaster ride of the last year. General manager Mike Koontz says demand is still down from 2019 levels but rebounding. One of North America’s busiest parks, Kings Island attracted more than 3 million visitors in 2019.

Scene75, a large indoor entertainment center, appears to be the latest victim of the covid-19 pandemic, as its Edgewood Towne Center location is closing permanently. Scene75 offered an array of entertainment, ranging from an indoor go-cart track and a two-story laser tag course to 18 holes of indoor miniature golf and 90,000 square feet of arcade games. The Edgewood site closed during the covid-19 pandemic but was apparently planning to reopen this spring. A sign hanging on the door Monday reads: “Due to government restrictions surrounding covid-19, this location will be closed until further notice.”

Why The U S Government Doesn t Regulate Amusement Parks

May 6, 2021 09:36 pm By Lawrence Banton Share with Certainly, amusement and theme parks are a favorite American pastime with more than 159 million attendees visiting the top 20 North American venues in the year before the pandemic hit. There is something special, perhaps even nostalgic, about going on your favorite rides on a great weather day and it makes it easy to forget accidents, sometimes fatal, could occur. According to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), of the parks surveyed, there were 1,294 ride-related injuries, of which 6 percent required hospitalization or resulted in death in 2019. So, while serious or deadly accidents might be rare, high-profile incidents (such as in March when a rider was ejected from a roller coaster in Tennessee) beg the question: who or what regulates theme park safety?
