Lavender flowers dress Saudi deserts during Spring, reflecting the unique natural landscape of the Kingdom.
The northern regions of the Kingdom are abundant in shamrock, chrysanthemum, and lavender flowers that flourish in various degrees of purple that goes in harmony with the desert landscape and give it vigor.
This has prompted Saudi Arabia to choose purple as the new color for its carpets during ceremonial and formal occasions, which includes receiving heads of states, official guests, presidents, ministers, and ambassadors.
The Kingdom is one of the few countries that no longer use the traditional red carpets during official occasions.

Architect Basmah Kaki is a recipient of the RIBA Bronze Medal and the SOM Foundation UK Award, and is the director and tutor of the AA Visiting School: Makkah vs Makkah program. She is based in Jeddah and is working on a number of key cultural projects, such as leading heritage work in UNESCO sites in Al Balad in Jeddah and in Al Ula. JEDDAH: The King Abdul Aziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) launched a series called “Year of Arabic Calligraphy” to celebrate the artistic practice of handwriting based on the Arabic alphabet.
The activities and programs, held throughout the year at the center, will aim to promote Arabic calligraphy, shed light on its history and the stages of its development. It also will focus on its formation while highlighting its aesthetics through the different types of Arabic fonts.
Events will include Arabic calligraphy courses, a light show, along with workshops focused on printing Arabic calligraphy by using different technologies, rare artistic products and manuscripts.
