Nearly a thousand health care workers in Ingham County are getting Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine every week.
Health Officer Linda Vail says so far, the state has provided her department with 975 doses of vaccine a week. They’re getting an extra dose out of some vials.
She says the staff and the schedule would allow for more. “We did ask for the double, 1,950 doses this week, and didn’t get it, Vail adds, but we will be asking again, and I’ve also made a few phone calls.”
Vail says the department is vaccinating 350 or more people per day, and could double or triple that if they had enough vaccine.

SAGINAW, MI Waiting for a snowstorm to descend on her Wisconsin home on the cusp of her 85th birthday, Joy H. Zissler reflected on her legacy as the first uniformed police woman with the Saginaw Police Department.
“I loved my profession,” she said on the phone from her home in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, on the eve of her birthday of Sunday, Jan. 24. “Saginaw was my hometown and I loved it. I would do it again if I was young.”
Saginaw Public Schools plans to start remote, move to face-to-face learning in March

SAGINAW, MI - Saginaw Public Schools will continue its all-remote learning model into the spring semester, with plans to possibly shift to a full in-person model starting Monday, March 1.
The district’s Board of Education discussed the proposed changes introduced by Superintendent Ramont Roberts at its Wednesday, Jan. 13 meeting. Roberts recommended that the district change from cohorted classes to full classes through Zoom five days a week now that faculty are more familiar and experienced with remote technology, and then shift to full in-person classes rather than an in-person hybrid model at the start of March. The district’s spring semester begins Monday, Jan. 25.

SAGINAW, MI - The city of Saginaw will reopen City Hall and its offices to the public Monday, Jan. 4.
The buildings will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with face coverings and social distancing still required. At-home assistance is still available by calling 989-399-1311, as are online and dropbox payment options, according to the release.
The city’s offices have been closed since Nov. 18 in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
