(Robinson Kuntz/Daily Republic) Solano board acknowledges Peace Officers Memorial Day FAIRFIELD The Solano County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday recognized May 15 as the 59th annual commemoration of Peace Officers Memorial Day and recognized May 9-15 as National Police Officer Appreciation Week in Solano County. The last peace officer in Solano County to die in the line of duty was California Highway Patrol Officer Kirk “Hollywood” Griess on Aug. 10, 2018. Griess was 46. He left behind a wife, Keri, daughters, Kadi and Kaci, and son, Kole. The former Marine is buried in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery near Dixon.

(Aaron Rosenblatt/Daily Republic) Hear tunes from folk artist Joe Sam at rural Vacaville benefit VACAVILLE Joseph Samaniego, who locals know as Joe Sam, is pitching in his musical talents May 22 for an event that will feature art created from the burned farm and rural properties after the LNU Lightning Complex Fire. The musician, who teaches at the Mission Music Academy, hails from Southern California where he picked up the guitar when he was about 12, playing music by ear.

Eardley Johnson Eardley L. Johnson, known as ‘E.L.’, 82 years old, passed away on April 6, 2021. He was born in Nassau, Bahamas, joined the Air Force, he was in the Air Force for 27 years, and when he was stationed at Travis AFB, he loved the area so much, he decided this would be where he would want to retire. One major hobby and also was his pride and joy was his bowling. He had joined several bowling leagues at Travis Bowl, and at Vacaville. He loved traveling to go on the tournaments and has made many ‘Bowling Buddies’ along the way.

Robert Bob Dinwiddle

Robert ‘Bob’ Dinwiddle Dec. 19, 1942 Feb. 27, 2021 Loving husband, father and friend, Robert ‘Bob’ Gerald Dinwiddie unexpectedly passed away of natural causes on Feb. 27, 2021, at his home in Vacaville, California. Bob was born on Dec. 19, 1942, in Long Beach, California, to his parents, Robert Roy and Medora Opal Dinwiddie. Bob attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School where he played the center position on their winning football team and graduated in the Class of 1961. After high school, he attended UCLA and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1966. While at UCLA he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity where he made lifelong friends.
