On Tuesday, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) voted to pass H.R.1843, the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, which aims to combat the rise in Anti-Asian hate crimes since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the U.S. grapples with the horrific impacts of COVID-19, the Asian-American community is also facing an alarming rise in anti-Asian violent attacks and discrimination. Since March 2020, Stop AAPI Hate has documented over 6,600 incidents of anti-Asian violence and verbal attacks against the Asian American community.

SACRAMENTO, CA Calls for defunding police in America have ramped up in the year since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, with a number of major American cities taking steps to move certain responsibilities away from law enforcement.
Those cities include Sacramento, which plans to spend $5.8 million on a Department of Community Response that will, according to The Sacramento Bee, handle mental health issues and homelessness, among other calls that have traditionally been handled by police.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) Sacramento city leaders have signed a letter urging the Department of Homeland Security to release Omar Ameen from custody.
Ameen, a refugee from Iraq who was living in Sacramento, was accused of killing an Iraqi police officer in 2014. He has been in US custody since 2018, but Ameen’s alleged involvement in the killing has been the subject of intense scrutiny.
