Student Fund-a-Need Securing Jackets For Kids Who Need Them in Chilly Classrooms

Housing and Development Newsletter Students who have already returned to in-person learning are now in classrooms where windows and doors need to be left open with fans on to allow for airflow, and teachers are depending on outdoor spaces for teaching lessons while giving students space. Dianne Travis-Teague Named to Santa Barbara City Fire & Police Commission

Housing and Development Newsletter With this appointment, Travis-Teague joins hundreds of Black women across the country who are stepping into civic service and government leadership, exemplified in Vice President Kamala Harris, a multi-ethnic Black woman. “I remember attending protest marches with my grandmother,” said Travis-Teague. “I never thought my granddaughter and my grandson would have struggles similar to those I had as a young Black woman in America. Joining the Fire and Police Commission gives me the opportunity to help shape a different reality for our future generations.”  “At a time when our profession is in need of community partnerships, Dianne has already demonstrated her willingness to engage, and her ability to influence our department’s future,” said Lt. Shawn Hill of the Santa Barbara Police Department community accountability division.

Santa Barbara District Staff Urges Denial of Outdoor-Learning Charter School

In response to the questions about the demographics, the Thoreau proponents responded: It is the intention of this petition to serve a similar proportional demographic as exists in the SBUSD. While it is clear that professional, middle-class and predominantly Caucasian families are eager to educate their children in more progressive, learner-centered learning environments, it is harder to attract families who have no experience with such environments. To remedy this, we will have a lottery approach with weighted criteria. The district also questioned how the curriculum would motivate students to learn outdoors. Thoreau said the teachers would be instrumental in encouraging students to continually learn tasks.
