Three people arrested for catalytic converter thefts in Carpinteria

Santa Barbara County Sheriff s deputies arrested three people on suspicion of stealing catalytic converters.
On Thursday, at around 2:49 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 1000-block of Palmetto Way in Carpinteria for a reported theft of a catalytic converter that had just occurred.
The reporting party said they heard what sounded like a saw, recognized that a theft was likely occurring, and called law enforcement to provide a vehicle description and their direction of travel.
Patrol deputies located and stopped a vehicle that matched the description minutes later.
Carpinteria boarding school teacher accused of sexually assaulting students

A former teacher is under investigation after allegedly sexually assaulting multiple students at an elite boarding school in Carpinteria.
The former Cate School teacher, whom authorities are not yet identifying, is accused of sexually assaulting students currently and formerly enrolled at the private boarding school. The crimes allegedly occurred on school property and while the teacher was employed by the Cate School, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Cate is a four-year college preparatory boarding school that draws students from numerous states and countries.

Law enforcement authorities are investigating reports of sexual abuse and misconduct by a former employee at the elite Cate School in Carpinteria, months after campus officials told alumni that they launched their own internal look into potential abuse that could date back decades.
The investigation into allegations at the private boarding high school began on April 1, after the Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Office received a report from a mandated reporter outside of the school, said Raquel Zick, a public information officer with the sheriff s office. The alleged abuse occurred while the suspect was employed at the school and on school property, authorities said.
