Longtime San Joaquin County prosecutor and Judge F. Clark Sueyres handled many of the region’s highest-profile cases during his time practicing law, but it’s his legacy outside the courtroom that may leave the deepest mark on the community.   “He is Judge Sueyres, in many, many ways, but at the end of the day it was his role as Clark – a champion of this community – that’s the thing that’s sticking with me more than anything,” his son, Colin Sueyres said Saturday. “The legacy he left was greater than what he did as a job … what defined him was the fact that he gave back.”

Lathrop Police Services reported in a Facebook post a man arrested in the service s undercover sting operation was convicted of seeking sex with a minor. Mario Francisco Martinez, 41, contacted an undercover officer who he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. Police reported Martinez spoke graphically and arranged to meet with the officer. When he arrived, he found Lathrop police conducting an undercover sting operation. Lathrop police were targeting adults seeking to engage in sexual acts with minors in 2020.

Deputy going to trial for fatal Ripon shooting A Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputy that fired the shots that killed a Modesto woman in Ripon in 2017 may finally see his day in court. Justin Wall, who was only 24 when he was involved in a pursuit from Stanislaus County into Ripon following 46-year-old Evin Olsen Yadegar, was charged with manslaughter by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office for his role in the woman’s death. Yadegar, who led police on a slow-speed chase from Salida into Ripon and eventually came to a stop on South Manley Avenue, began to back up before pulling forward drive around a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department vehicle when Wall stepped forward and began firing shots from his service weapon to try and stop the vehicle.
