SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – After nearly a year, San Diego County health officials still haven’t come up with a plan to safely allow fans to attend Padres games at Petco Park, which is outdoors.
This year is one of the most anticipated Padres seasons ever, as many believe this is the best team we have ever had.
Less than a week ago, we saw 25,000 people attend Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida, and the same thing happen at various stadiums across the country for the entirety of the NFL season.
In October 2020, San Diego hosted the ALCS, and the NLCS was played in Arlington, Texas. The difference being, fans were only allowed to attend the NLCS games because the state of California deemed attending sporting events unsafe.

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego County Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten announced the county will step up enforcement over Super Bowl weekend.
Dr. Wilma Wooten said Los Angeles County’s decision to ban restaurants from turning on their TVs, “makes perfect sense,” but San Diego County has not yet made that decision.
The county’s revised Health Officer Order also reinstates previous restrictions on outdoor dining, requiring servers to wear masks and face shields, limiting restaurants to 50% of patio capacity, limiting tables to no more than six people and requiring tables to be at least eight feet apart.
But the order also states: “Televisions or any other screens that are used to broadcast programming must be removed from the area or turned off. This provision is effective until further notice.”

NORTH PARK (KUSI) – Monday on Good Evening San Diego, KUSI’s Dan Plante visited Rudford’s Restaurant Diner in North Park.
He spoke with the owner, Nick Kacha, about how tough 2020 was, and about his hopes for 2021 being better.
During the 4:00 PM hour of Good Evening San Diego, Kacha said he wants our local health officials to be more “optimistic about the situation and a little less grim.” Kacha explained that he believes they should focus on the fact that we are doing more testing than ever, and how that can be attributed to the rise in cases, instead of “bringing down the community and making them scared.”
