–The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees met for four hours Saturday morning to craft a response to the San Luis Obispo County Grand Jury Report. The report, “Paso Robles School District: A Cautionary Tale”, criticizes the previous board for financial mismanagement during the tenure of former Superintendent Chris Williams and his board of trustees.

The board agreed 5-1 to hire independent legal counsel to help craft its response. Board President Chris Arend voted no, Trustee Lance Gannon did not attend the meeting. Two former board members called in to the meeting to address their actions while serving on the board. Joel Peterson and Joan Summers called into the special meeting to defend the actions of the previous board.

David Rodriguez Hernandez
A man who had been on the run for nearly six years was sentenced Monday to 24 years and eight months in prison for his involvement in the 2013 shooting death of 37-year-old Victor Hugo Sanchez of Paso Robles.
On November 30, David Rodriguez Hernandez, 44, was convicted by plea of conspiracy, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and voluntary manslaughter. Hernandez also admitted to using a firearm during the homicide.
Hernandez escaped to Mexico with his wife following the Feb. 2013 killing of 37-year-old Victor Sanchez, who fell victim to a jealous lover’s plot that unexpectedly turned fatal. The jealous lover, Maria Fajardo, was convicted in Dec. 2014 of second-degree murder in the death of Sanchez, who was her ex-boyfriend.
–California Attorney General Xavier Becerra’s Office last week appealed a judge’s order that disqualified the San Luis Obispo District Attorney’s Office from prosecuting Tianna Arrata and several other defendants. Arrata and the defendants allegedly committed criminal acts during a July protest in San Luis Obispo.
The filings read, in part, “The Attorney General of the State of California appeals, pursuant to Penal Code section 1424, subdivision (a)(1) and (2), and in accordance with section 1466, subdivision (a)(1) to the Appellate Division of the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court, from the Court‘s December 11, 2020 order recusing the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office…”
