The board will also get an update on the proposed redistricting of the Gish Mill property. A developer is proposing to put a restaurant, retail, residential and lodging on the historic property. Gleaning for the World will collect food and household supplies today through Thursday. The organization will set up at Sam’s Club on Wards Road in Lynchburg from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The ‘Love Your Neighbor’ event will give food to local food pantries and churches to help with distribution in the local community.

household cleaning supplies This collection comes as a result of an increase in the number of people asking for help at local pantries and churches with food distributions. “Several of our area partners who have feeding programs told us that the number of people they served in the last year has doubled or tripled,” Jeane Smiley-Mason, Gleaning’s president said. Gleaning’s first Love Your Neighbor donation event was held in mid-February, but was cut short due to the wide-spread ice storm that left so many in the area without power. The organization will be on-site at Sam’s Club on Wards Road March 16-18, and again on April 6-8.

The state wants to widen a 5.1-mile stretch is between exits 137 and 141 in Roanoke County and Salem from two lanes to three. The nearly $300 million project will provide additional capacity and improve safety. The public hearing runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Pulaski County School Board will discuss the timeline for returning to five days of instruction per week. Last week, Gov. Ralph Northam asked all school divisions to make in-person learning options available by March 15. The board will also discuss options for the school calendar for the next school year.

Gleaning for the World holds Love your Neighbor donation drive – 105 9 WLNI-FM

Gleaning for the World holds “Love your Neighbor” donation drive The Concord-based charity Gleaning for the World is holding a different kind of donation drive this week.  Typically Gleaning helps people in other areas of the country or world who are affected by natural disasters.  Now, Teresa Davis with Gleaning says they’re reaching out with a “Love your Neighbor” campaign: Gleaning will be collecting food and supplies Tuesday through Saturday at Sam’s Club in Lynchburg from 10am to 6pm.  They are also taking financial donations at the website gftw.org/neighbor.
