COVID-19: Fall River High School goes virtual after 12 test positive

Fall River High School will be transitioning to distance learning beginning on Thursday, March 4, to Monday, March 22, after 12 students tested positive for COVID-19 in the last week, said Merrill Grant, superintendent of the Fall River Joint Unified School District.  We worked closely with Shasta County Department of Public Health to make this decision in the best interest of the school and the greater Intermountain community, Grant said in an email.  The cases do not seem to be related and they did not spread in school, Grant added in the email. However, contact tracing shows that cases could be transmitted in outside activities students are involved in.

“We submit our allocation request to the state,” Kerri said, “And then the state sends us the vaccine that we have been approved to receive.” Shasta County Public Health said the state decides how many doses will be sent to each county by looking at population size and who is eligible at the time. Lorainne Johnson, who lives in Red Bluff, is going to have to wait until the end of the month before she can even get her first dose of the vaccine. “I am sure it is causing it to take longer for us,” Johnson said. “Because we are a small town.”

We start from scratch every year and that s what makes it a little bit more difficult.”
