The EX Program will be available to the nearly 8,900 employees working for the McLeod Health system of hospitals and physician practices in northeastern South Carolina. The McLeod Healthier You Program will integrate the EX Program into its overall wellness package for employees. With the EX Program, McLeod Health will now provide all employees who use tobacco including smokers with chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease tailored support to quit.

LOS ANGELES– Midwives, nurses and birth professionals from across California joined a Zoom celebration on Wednesday December 16 to congratulate Lilit B. Sarkissian, CNM, MSN, RNC-OB and Naomi E. Drucker, CNM, MSN, RNC on the “birth” of Los Angeles’ newest midwifery practice, Los Angeles Midwives, A Professional Nursing Corporation. With delivering privileges at a leading Westside hospital, Los Angeles Midwives provides home or hospital birth options to women in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Midwives’ co-founders are Certified Nurse-Midwives whose primary offering is birth services (delivery, prenatal and postpartum care) to expectant mothers, and Well-Woman Care to women ranging from 12 to 80 years old. The event was a chance to learn more about the founders, the type of care they provide, the future of birth in a post-COVID Los Angeles, and how midwives can help improve women’s health in California.

When the World Health Organization (WHO) named 2020 as the ‘International Year of the Nurse’, it had no inkling of how true that would become. The designation was meant to honor the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, a Victorian-era reformer of hospital care, and to raise recognition of the nursing profession. Then the Coronavirus pandemic struck. As the year draws to a close, we truly have learned how essential nurses are to everyone’s lives in 2020. We must not forget it.
Hospitalizations for COVID-19 infection across the U.S. have soared daily, setting new records for weeks on end. More than 3,000 Americans are dying every day from the virus, and infected patients are stretching U.S. medical facilities to the breaking point. In New Mexico the trends are no different. ICU beds are full across the state.
