Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo became the 27
th head of the country’s Judiciary after being appointed by President Duterte last April 5. He is expected to serve until midnight of Nov. 6, 2026, his 70
th birthday.
Gesmundo assumed the post at the time the country is still reeling from the devastating effects of the dreaded coronavirus disease.
The country has high expectations and hopes in Chief Justice Gesmundo’s leadership given his sterling record of 36 years in the public service. A stickler for the rules, he is expected to steer the Judiciary to attain tremendous success in the people’s quest for justice, equality, due process, and respect for human rights.

Gesmundo was appointed Chief Justice by President Duterte. His appointment papers were received by the Supreme Court (SC) last April 5 and he immediately assumed his post on the same day after taking his oath of office before SC Senior Associate Justice Estela M. Perlas Bernabe.
He took over the post vacated last March 27 by the now retired Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta.
It was also the President who appointed Gesmundo as SC associate justice on Aug. 14, 2017. It was a promotion from his post as associate justice of the Sandiganbayan where he was appointed on Oct. 15, 2005.

Centro Escolar University performing groups took on the virtual stage for a concert titled “Magsimula Ka!” in celebration of the National Arts Month on February 27, 2021, led nationwide by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
The CEU Folk Dance Troupe, CEU Concert Band, CEU Pep Squad, and CEU Singers from the Manila, Makati, and Malolos campuses performed moving rendition of inspirational songs and beautiful dance numbers. Selected students and alumni also offered solo performances that conveyed meaningful messages befitting the challenges the world is facing these days.
The online concert was also set to pay tribute to Doña Librada Avelino, CEU first president and founder, together with Doña Carmen de Luna as co-founder, and to commemorate her 148th birth anniversary.

Centro Escolar University vice president for Makati Dr. Olivia M. Limuaco was given the Professional Distinction Award and Professional Excellence Award by the Philippine Federation of Professional Association (PFPA) during its 8th Distinction and Excellence Awarding Ceremony held at the UP Bahay ng Alumni.
Dr. Limuaco’s valuable contributions in the academe, particularly in the field of pharmacy, and her active involvement and leadership in various organizations and even community services are truly commendable. The awards, with the other recognitions accorded her, such as being the 2020 Philippine Pharmacists Association Lifetime Achievement Awardee and PPhA 2019 Gawad Lourdes Echauz Leadership Awardee, are indeed testaments of her professional competence and excellence.

ErudiFi, a tech-enabled company providing access to affordable education financing in Southeast Asia and responsible for the operations of Bukas PH, announced its plan after closing a $5 million Series A round co-led by Monk’s Hill Ventures and Qualgro.
In a statement, the company said part of the funding will be used to make key hires across product and engineering, marketing and operations, business development, and data functions. The company also plans to scale ErudiFi’s education financing services, deepen its footprint in existing markets in the Philippines and Indonesia with educational institution partners, and invest in product innovation to deepen ErudiFi’s engagement and relationship with students and schools.
