Chicago Public Schools CEO Janice Jackson to step down at end of school year

Chicago Public Schools CEO Janice Jackson to step down at end of school year By FOX 32 Digital Staff Published  CHICAGO - Chicago Public Schools CEO Janice Jackson announced Monday she will be resigning at the conclusion of the school year this July. In a letter to CPS families, Jackson detailed her lifelong love for the district and said in her final months at the helm she will focus on preparing schools for a full reopening in the fall. CPS has been an integral part of my life first as a student, most importantly as a parent, and most humbly as the CEO, Jackson wrote.  It is with that adoration that I have led this great school district as CEO for the past four years.  While I feel there is still more work to be done in CPS, I also believe it is time to pass the torch to new leadership for the next chapter.

World News Quick Take Planned party ban protested Thousands of people on Sunday took to the streets of Lisbon to protest a call for the far-right anti-immigration Chega (Enough) party to be banned. “Shame,” “We will resist to the end” and “For freedom of expression, against corruption” were among slogans written on placards at the march. A heavy security presence flanked the march, which drew protesters from across the country, responding to a call by Chega. Former presidential candidate Ana Gomes, a socialist, is leading the call for a Chega ban, going to court in February. There are also calls for a probe into the party’s finances. Gomes has said Chega harbors xenophobic ideas in contravention of Portugal’s constitution.

Coronavirus in Illinois updates: More than 3 million residents now fully vaccinated; parents group accuses CTU of ‘moving the goalposts’ on reopening; 3,536 new cases and 31 more deaths reported Chicago Tribune staff, Chicago Tribune © Antonio Perez/Chicago Tribune The president of the Chicago Teachers Union on Wednesday called the latest proposal from the city on high school reopening “quite responsive” but said staff members are staying home in protest, anyway, because the sides still lack enough common ground. Chicago Public Schools had set April 19 as the target date to start reopening high schools and required high school employees to start reporting to work in-person on Monday. CPS parents who support a broader return to in-person learning are speaking out against CTU’s actions, saying the union is “moving the goalposts once again.”
