Cecil County Adult Drug Court leads to fresh starts

CECIL COUNTY — Jason Lee Wright started partying and experimenting with drugs here and there when he was a middle school student. By the time he graduated high school, the Cecil County native was using other drugs recreationally on the weekends — a pattern he maintained, without noticeable consequence, for about the next 15 years. “I was able to still function somehow,” said 37-year-old Wright, cautioning that this part of his story is the exception and not the rule. “I had my own general contracting business. I owned a home and two cars. I was married and had two children.” But sometime in 2015 or 2016, he was introduced to methamphetamine, which marked the start of his downward spiral.

Matthew Roath Robert Ashby PERRYVILLE — In the final days leading up the May 11 municipal election words are getting heated as the challenger in the mayoral race and supporters of the incumbent trade barbs over Great Wolf Lodge. Mayor Robert Ashby is seeking a second term in office as mayor of Perryville. His challenger is Matthew Roath. Not long after the deadline passed to enter the race in early April, Roath began campaigning against what he considered was reckless spending in town hall and disarray in town government. Using a Facebook page for his campaign Roath questioned property taxes, water and sewer rates, economic development and community services, claiming each has been adversely affected under Ashby’s time in office. He has also questioned whether Perryville got the better end of the deal in the Great Wolf Lodge contract.
