Around 1 p.m., the Pine Island and Elgin Fire Departments responded to the 11400 block of Cedar Beach Drive Northwest in Oronoco Township for a report of a field on fire.  When crews arrived, flames were approaching buildings on the farm threatening several sheds and a home.  Crews deployed 4-wheelers and UTVs, along with several brush trucks to extinguish the flames.  The fire is believed to have started when trees and brush were being removed from and placed in a pile to burn. Embers from that fire ignited the surrounding fields when winds picked up.
