In order to be transparent to the community, the City of Barrie is sharing the following information out of an abundance of caution. The City was notified this evening that a Barrie Transit operator received a positive COVID-19 test result today.
The bus operator is following public health directions and isolating. All buses are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after service each day and receive additional mid-day sanitization to further improve safety measures.
Barrie Transit is not aware of any workplace transmission at this time. As the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit advises on an ongoing basis, everyone in the community should follow Health Unit guidelines, self-monitor, and get tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms.
BARRIE, ONT. Public health reports a significant jump in the number of COVID-19 cases Thursday in Simcoe Muskoka, with 123 confirmed, plus two more virus-related deaths. According to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), a man and woman over the age of 65, both from Simcoe County, died from complications of the virus, bringing the region s total death count to 207. Currently, there are 720 active infections, including 39 hospitalizations. The SMDHU has three school outbreaks listed at W.H. Day Public School and Holy Trinity Catholic High School, both in Bradford, and Good Shepherd Catholic School in Barrie. The outbreak at Boyne River Public School in Alliston was declared over on Wednesday.

The local health unit added two COVID-19 cases in the District of Muskoka today(Friday) pushing the district to 16 active cases.
One case, an 18 to 34-year-old male, was reported in Huntsville which now stands at three active cases.
The other case, also an 18 to 34-year-old male, was reported in Gravenhurst making it the town’s only active case currently.
The health unit also reported that a Bracebridge local was hospitalized yesterday with COVID-19.
Bracebridge now stands at four active cases including one in hospital, Lake of Bay is at four active cases, Muskoka Lakes remains at four as well, so does Georgian Bay with no active cases.

ORANGEVILLE, ONT. Select health units across Ontario are making the call to close schools and opt for remote learning. School boards in Peel Region, Toronto and now Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph have shifted temporarily to online learning while the Ontario government maintains classrooms are safe. Teachers in the Upper Grand District School Board prepared students to return to virtual learning starting Wednesday. Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph s medical officer of health, Dr. Nicola Mercer, said she issued the order for schools to close Monday night after seeing data from the past six days. We ve had nearly 300 cases since Thursday. We closed more classrooms in one day than we did at any time in the pandemic. What we saw, also, was our seven-day rate of cases quadrupled, Mercer said.
