A 75-year-old Barbadian woman died last night as a result of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). She had pre-existing chronic non-communicable diseases and passed away after spending 14 days at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility. The virus has now claimed 39 lives.
A statement from Government also said that on Monday, March 15, the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory identified 16 new positive cases of COVID-19 from among 358 tests.
There were also 39 recoveries, bringing the number of active cases to 165.
The 16 positive individuals comprise five women and 11 men. Five of them were already at the Harrison Point Facility undergoing assessment.
The total number of confirmed cases recorded since the pandemic began is 3 458 – 1 639 females and 1 819 males – and 3 254 people have recovered from the virus.

BICO sends treats and cheer to frontline workers

Sweet treats, and a little cheer, have been delivered to frontline health and social care workers at various institutions across the island thanks to BICO Limited.
BICO’s Sales and Business Development Manager, Dwayne Holmes, led the initiative which began February 25 with the Maurice Byer Polyclinic and ended on March 8 with the Barbados Vagrant and Homeless Society.
Holmes explained: “The project was supported by several members of the BICO team, including sales associate Llewelyn Riley who assisted with the deliveries.”
He added: “The BICO team has been moved by the service and sacrifices of our frontline workers throughout this pandemic. We thought it was important to spread some cheer with the ultimate feel-good product – BICO ice cream.
