US Maritime (US MARAD) updates its Gulf of Guinea, Red Sea/Gulf of Aden and Persian Gulf security advisories

The US Department of Transportation Maritime Administration (US MARAD) has revised its advisory for the Gulf of Guinea (2021-002).
According to Risk Intelligence’s Monthly Intelligence Report January 2021, attackers operating off the southern and eastern Niger Delta remain the most significant threat in the Gulf of Guinea. All types of vessels may be targeted, yet successful boardings are more likely on ‘low and slow’ vessel types such as small bulk carriers or product tankers, general cargo and offshore supply ships or fishing vessels.

Maritime Security: Updated Guidance For Vessels Operating In The Arabian Gulf, Gulf Of Oman, Gulf Of Aden And Red Sea
Reference is made to the recently reported event of a limpet mine having been found attached to the hull of a tanker engaged in a ship-to-ship transfer operation in the Arabian Gulf. Thankfully, the mine was discovered in time to avoid any injuries or damage to the vessel.
As a result of this incident, a joint industry group has released further maritime security related guidance, Industry Update Following Incident in the Persian Gulf, recommending that vessel operators should consider sending the following guidance to vessels operating in the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden and Red Sea.
Grant Invests in Logger Certification to Support Green Economy
CONCORD, NH The Future Forest Economy Initiative is investing $250,000 to enhance markets for certified wood and to strengthen the supply chain for wood in the Northern Forest region through a grant to the Trust to Conserve Northeast Forestlands (TCNEF).
“Only a fraction of the forestland in our region is green certified,” said Joe Short, vice president of the Northern Forest Center, which manages the Future Forest Economy program. “Certifying logging companies through TCNEF’s Master Logger program will increase the volume of certified, sustainably harvested wood available to the region’s mills. Certified lands alone are not enough to meet demand for certified wood in the region.”
