Kentucky State Police and Special Olympics bring back Cover the Cruiser

May 13, 2021 Photo contributed FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State Police once again is showing their support of Special Olympics Kentucky by hosting the Cover the Cruiser fundraising event at locations across the commonwealth. Starting Monday, May 17, KSP will park cruisers at a variety of public locations, including Walmart in London on Monday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Barbourville Walmart on Tuesday from 10  a.m. to 2 p.m., and encourages Kentuckians to cover the cruisers with custom SOKY stickers for a minimum donation of one dollar, which will go directly to SOKY. “Special Olympics emulates what Team Kentucky is building each day,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “It focuses on what we as Kentuckians have in common while accepting our differences in support of building one another up so that we can reach our fullest potential. Berkeley Police Chief Andrew Greenwood. Photo: Emilie Raguso Berkeley Police Chief Andrew Greenwood announced his retirement Thursday and said his last day at the department would be March 12. Greenwood, a Berkeley native, has been at BPD for 35 years and became chief four years ago with a promise to make public trust his top priority. “The time has come for me to focus on my family and our health, and give long overdue attention to our home,” he wrote in his brief retirement announcement, which he emailed to the department Thursday at 11:15 a.m. Greenwood said Capt. Jen Louis will serve as interim chief, “effective immediately,” and has his “full support.” The city will conduct a national search for Greenwood’s replacement, according to a memo from the city manager that was posted Thursday.
