Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating an incident Wednesday involving the discharge of an Anti Riot Weapon ENfield, or ARWEN, by an officer in North Bay.
Preliminary information shared by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is that at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers with the Ontario Provincial Police Emergency Response Team and North Bay Police Service Emergency Response Team surrounded a vehicle in the parking lot of a business on Lakeshore Drive.

A 22-year-old male passenger, who was wanted on multiple warrants, was inside the vehicle.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 16-year-old youth in Timmins on Monday.
According to a release issued by SIU, preliminary information suggests: At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 4 Timmins Police Service officers were dispatched to an address in Timmins for a youth in medical distress.

“Upon the arrival of paramedics and police, the youth was observed to be in an agitated state. As such officers attempted to restrain him for assessment. En route to hospital, the youth went vital signs absent. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. At 10:35 a.m. on April 5, 2021, the youth was pronounced deceased.”
