Rescue operation on as barge with 261 persons onboard is adrift at Bombay High Cyclonic storm ‘Tauktae’ wrought chaos in Mumbai as it disrupted airline operations, local train services on Monday, set adrift a barge with 261 on board, and shutdown the Bandra-Worli sea-link .
The barge at Bombay High was deployed by a consortium led by Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, a part of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, to undertake an ONGC contract.

The wind speed at the Union Territory of Diu was 133 kmph when the cyclone started making its landfall at around 9.30 pm, the Met office said.

MUMBAI: A very severe cyclonic storm with winds gusting up to 185 km per hour began making landfall on the Gujarat coast Monday night, after dumping heavy rains on Mumbai, forcing the evacuation of over 1.5 lakh people in Gujarat and leaving two barges with 410 people on board adrift in the Arabian Sea.
Flight operations at Mumbai airport resumed on Monday night after being suspended for 11 hours due to the cyclone Tauktae. More than 55 flights, both incoming and outbound, were cancelled at the city s till around 7.30 pm due to the closure. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport had announced suspension of all air services, initially for three hours from 11 am on Monday due to the cyclone. This was later extended eventually to 10 pm in different phases. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has resumed operations with effect from 2200 hours of May 17, the private airport operator said in a statement. The airport operator said it has registered the cancellations of 34 arrivals and 22 departures, adding that a few airlines have decided to cancel services to Mumbai.
