The Vietnamese aviation market is predicted to begin recovering by the middle of the third quarter with this year’s total estimated capacity of over 70 million passengers.
According to Dinh Viet Thang, director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), when the COVID-19 vaccination process had been accelerated in Vietnam and around the world in general, the Vietnamese aviation market is likely to recover.
Up-and-down period of aviation industry
According to a report by the CAAV, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought a tumultuous period to the world aviation industry.
The world aviation industry was estimated to have suffered a dramatic 60% drop in the number of passengers over 2020, equivalent to about 2.89 billion passengers, with a revenue deficit of US$327 billion, of which the Asia-Pacific region recorded the strongest fall of US$107 billion, the report said.

Vietnam is suspending various domestic routes to and from Ho Chi Minh City to stem a recent Covid-19 spike in its capital.
Flights between Ho Chi Minh City and the northern coastal city of Vinh have been suspended from 2 July until further notice following a request from Nghe An Province authorities, according to a 2 July circular by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
In a 3 July circular, the CAAV says it is proposing to suspend domestic connections between Ho Chi Minh City and central Vietnam’s Chu Lai and Phu Bai, starting 4 and 5 July, respectively.

Notice for automatic stay extension for foreigners stranded due to COVID-19
The Viet Nam Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security has issued a notice for automatic stay extension for foreigners stranded in Viet Nam due to COVID-19.
1. Foreigners who entered Viet Nam on visa waivers, e-visas or tourist visas from March 1st, 2020 are entitled to automatic stay extension until July 31, 2021 and can depart from Viet Nam without having to apply for stay extension.

Seaports must go green since 2030
All seaports in Viet Nam shall mandatorily go green from 2030, according to the Viet Nam Maritime Administration’s Decision No. 710/QD- CHHVN approving green seaport development plan.
Under the decision, basic standards on green port criteria will be developed and issued in 2021 and 2022.
From 2023 to 2025, the modal of green ports will be piloted in Viet Nam.
In the 2025-2030 period, nationally technical criteria on green ports will be developed and issued.
After 2030, the green port criteria will be included in planning, construction investment, and business exploitation.
