Electrical fire disrupts services at GAIA

Though not heavily impacted, an electrical fire at the Grantley Adams International Airport during the passage of Hurricane Elsa, has resulted in a disruption of services.
Speaking during Saturday’s update post Hurricane Elsa, Minister of Tourism Senator Lisa Cummings said while no significant damage was done to the port of entry, operations were still not back to normal.
“The airport withstood the hurricane well, we did not have any infrastructural damage except at an auxiliary facility, which is the Civil Aviation Training Centre, but we subsequently did experience water damage coming through one of the areas, which resulted in an electrical fire in the airport facility,” Cummings said.
PARAÑAQUE CITY, May 19 As proof of the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr s) commitment to upholding aviation safety in the country, Secretary Arthur P. Tugade will lead the inauguration of the country’s first 3D Aerodrome Tower Simulator at the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Training Center in Parañaque City.
The Supply, Installation, and Testing Aerodrome Tower Simulator, the first of its kind in the Philippines, was completed in March 2021 and will be formally inaugurated tomorrow, 19 May 2021.

The Aerodrome Tower Simulator features a 315-degree horizontal field of view visual simulator designed to aid traffic controllers in training, testing, and maintaining proficiency in handling aerodrome control operations without risking property or lives. The use of the simulator mitigates certain risks with the ability to practice handling flight emergencies and other aviation situations without the threat of any real danger.

WATCH the Philippines’ first Aerodrome Tower 3D Simulator as it goes live from the Civil Aviation Training Center in Pasay City, Manila, after the inauguration on Wednesday.
The Aerodrome Tower 3D Simulator serves as an aid to artificially recreate the control tower environment mainly for air traffic controller (ATC) training and design.

The visual simulator provides a 315-degree horizontal field of view (HOF) which encompasses three (3) air traffic controller (ATC) working positions, one (1) supervisor position, and four (4) pseudo pilot positions.
