(ECNS) Digital RMB was unveiled at the first China International Consumer Products Expo in Haikou, capital of south China s Hainan Province on Thursday.
The Hainan Branch of the Bank of China set up a digital RMB area for visitors to experience digital payments.
Hainan became the second batch of pilot areas for digital RMB use at the end of 2020. Visitors can have the first taste of various types of software and hardware wallet products at this Expo.

Despite the rise of unilateralism and protectionism, China has always delivered on its commitments to open up further and share opportunities with the world.
The first China International Consumer Products Expo is scheduled to be held in the southern province of Hainan from May 7 to 10. It is China s latest major sincere move to promote trade liberalization and facilitation, and it is a key measure toward the construction of the Hainan free trade port as well as the largest free trade zone (FTZ) nationwide.
China will leverage the advantages of the Hainan Free Trade Port, featuring comprehensive and deepened reform as well as high-level experimental opening-up policies, to deepen bilateral, multilateral and regional cooperation and join hands with all parties to create a better future for mankind, President Xi Jinping said on Thursday.
Hosting the first China International Consumer Products Expo, which opens on Friday, offers a global platform for boutique consumption, Xi said in a congratulatory letter to the exhibition s opening ceremony in Haikou, capital of Hainan province.
Xi said hosting the exhibition will help China share its market opportunities with the world, assist the recovery and growth of the world economy and enhance China s supply of higher-quality consumer goods to the rest of the world.
On the first working day after the May Day holidays, which generated travel-related spending with year-on-year growth of 138.1 percent to 113.23 billion yuan ($17.5 billion), consumers in the world s second largest economy now embraced another shopping feast - the first China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE), which is scheduled in Haikou, capital of South China s Hainan Province from May 7 to 10.
In a congratulatory letter to the expo, Chinese President Xi Jinping said the event will provide a global consumer boutique display and trading platform, which is conducive to the sharing of opportunities in the Chinese market by all countries, to the recovery and growth of the world economy, and to provide the world with more high-quality consumer products by China.
