BEIJING, May 8 (Xinhua) Cliff Walkers, Chinese director Zhang Yimou s first foray into the spy genre, topped China s box office chart on Friday, according to data from the China Movie Data Information Network.
The movie raked in 37.1 million yuan (around 5.7 million U.S. dollars) on its eighth day of screening, accounting for around 41 percent of China s daily box-office sales which totaled 90.5 million yuan on Friday.
It was followed by crime thriller Break Through the Darkness finishing the day with 19.7 million yuan in daily revenue.

Cliff Walkers continued to lead the Chinese mainland box office on Wednesday, the last day of the five-day May Day holiday, with a daily revenue of 78.86 million yuan ($12.18 million).
The earning of the movie, the first foray of Chinese director Zhang Yimou into the spy genre, accounted for 38.53 percent of China s daily box-office sales, which totaled 204.67 million yuan on Wednesday.
In terms of box-office revenue, Zhang s movie was followed by romantic drama
My Love, which pocketed more than 51.51 million yuan on Wednesday, according to data from the China Movie Data Information Network.
