Five candidates are bidding to become Staffordshire s next police, fire and crime commissioner.
The Staffordshire PFCC election was originally due to take place last May but was postponed for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The poll will now be held on Thursday, May 6.
Conservative Ben Adams and Labour s Tony Kearon had already been announced as their party s respective candidates before the election was delayed.
Michael Elston A ‘BUREAUCRATIC error’ in his nomination papers has stopped a Prestwich man from standing in next month’s Manchester mayoral election. Last year businessman Michael Elston, 39, announced his intention to stand as a independent candidate in the election on May 6, opposing current incumbent Andy Burnham. The election was deferred until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Mr Elston grew up in Prestwich and is a Bury FC fan, and went to Manchester Grammar School and then The University of Birmingham, where he studied ancient history, specialising in Egyptology. He said his intention to stand for election was motivated by lack of faith in the current party political landscape.
The Green Party’s candidate for the Swindon & Wiltshire Police & Crime Commissioner office has promised to do away with the role if elected. Brig Oubridge said he will work with his colleagues in parliament to push for a Wiltshire referendum on whether or not to abolish the office of PCC and revert to the previous Police Authority system. Mr Oubridge added that if elected he would not take a single penny of the £85,000 salary – with the exception of expenses – and will instead use the cash to fund a diverse panel including representatives from across the political spectrum.
