Eric Adams lead tightens in NYC Democratic mayoral primary

It was the second time in two days that election officials tabulated the ballots and released the results of New York City s first citywide ranked-choice election. Why d they tally the votes twice? Wednesday s release came after a chaotic 24 hours when the New York City Board of Elections released results that had accidentally included tens of thousands of test ballots in the results and then, hours later, pulled those results from their website and said more results would be released Wednesday.

New NYC BOE preliminary runoff same as the old one

SHARE: On Wednesday afternoon, the New York City Board of Elections released a new, unofficial ranked-choice voting tally in the Democratic mayoral and comptroller primaries, showing the dramatic finding that… the projection is the same as the erroneous one the day before! Just as the BOE reported, and then unreported, on Tuesday, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is still leading in the Democratic mayoral primary, but former Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia is now trailing by only 2.2 percentage points in the final round of the instant runoff simulation, shrinking Adams’ election night lead – which measured only first-choice votes – of 12 percentage points.

Vote mistake not the first flub for NYC Board of Elections

NEW YORK  Names mistakenly purged from voter rolls. Long lines at polling places. Equipment breakdowns. Absentee ballots with the wrong voter’s name. And now a blunder in tallying mayoral primary votes. The troubled record of New York City’s Board of Elections has provoked outcries from elected leaders for years. Despite longstanding agreement on the need for changes, little has been done. This week the board added another ignominious example when it mistakenly added 135,000 test ballots to preliminary vote counts in the Democratic primary for mayor. The error prompted new calls to reform the century-old board, a relic from the days of Tammany Hall, and optimism that this time might be different.
