South Africa – A police sergeant from Bloemfontein in the Free State has been arrested after he allegedly shot his girlfriend in the head at the weekend, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said.
Ipid spokesperson Ndileka Cola said the officer, who is attached to the Bloemspruit crime prevention unit, allegedly discharged his service firearm during a family gathering with his girlfriend on Saturday.
âThe officer allegedly became unruly and was chased out of the yard by the victim. He allegedly used his service pistol to shoot the victim once in the head,â Cola said.

Eastern Cape cop remains in custody on triple murder charge

DURBAN - A 55-year-old policeman from the Eastern Cape province will remain in custody following an appearance at the Centane Magistrateâs Court on Monday.
The warrant officer from the Mthatha VIP Protection Unit is facing three counts of murder and one attempted murder charge, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) confirmed on Monday.
Ipid spokesperson Ndileka Cola said that the suspectâs case was postponed to Thursday, when he will appear for a possible bail hearing.
The suspect allegedly shot four people last Wednesday, killing three and seriously wounding the other.

Durban - A South African Police Service (SAPS) constable from the Eastern Cape province is set to appear in the Centane magistrate court on Monday after shooting three people dead and seriously wounding another.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) confirmed on Monday that it was investigating a case of triple murder and one case of attempted murder, following the incident last Wednesday.
The suspect was arrested on the same day, IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola said in a statement.
The warrant officer from the Mthatha VIP Protection Unit allegedly borrowed a piece of land belonging to a church in Centane, in the Eastern Cape’s Amathole district municipality.
