This was the same number at the end of November and was the fourth highest figure of the last six months of 2020. Men in Worcester were slightly more likely to be furloughed than women, with a take-up rate of 11%, compared to 10%. Jobs at firms which are unable to operate or have no work for their employees because of coronavirus are eligible for furlough pay from the Government – with workers currently getting 80% of their wages, up to £2,500 per month. Across the UK, 3.8 million jobs were furloughed as of December 31, down slightly from 3.9 million a month before, but above the 2.4 million of October 31.

More cash for non-essential retail and hospitality business affected by lockdown – with ‘active consideration’ of further freelancer support

The Welsh Government has revealed further details of the £200m package of support for non-essential retail, hospitality, leisure and tourism businesses that continue to be impacted by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The latest funding is linked to the non-domestic rates system and will operate as a top up to the Restrictions Business Fund which was put in place in early December. It brings this latest phase of Welsh Government support to £650m and will help businesses with operational costs through to the end of March.

Just 11% of eligible jobs in the Rochdale borough have been supported by the furlough scheme as of 30 November, the latest figures from government show.
Launched in 2020, the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) – also known as furlough – and the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) are run by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), as part of a package of support measures for businesses affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
At the start of the pandemic, almost 24,000 local jobs were furloughed.
As of 30 November 2020, 10,800 roles had been furloughed: 5,600 in the Heywood and Middleton parliamentary constituency, and 5,200 in the Rochdale constituency.
