The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has called on people that want to venture into quarrying or sand mining to consult the agency on how best they carry out their businesses without harming the environment.
ZEMA acting Manager for Corporate Affairs Friday Phiri said the environment is a common heritage that supports life and every kind of activity taken would have an impact on people in one way or another.
Mr. Phiri explained that ZEMA is one of the authorities in terms of all mining activities hence those who have been granted mining licences should get in touch with the agency for further guidance.
Tonderai Kasu
Chitungwiza town clerk Tonderai Kasu said the municipality has no imminent plans to demolish illegal settlements following a complaint from the Chitungwiza Residents Trust (Chitrest).
This comes after the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights on behalf of Chitrest wrote to the municipality seeking clarity regarding proposed demolitions in the town.
A leaked internal memo stated that the municipality would soon demolish 11 000 properties illegally constructed on wetlands, sewer lines and areas reserved for railway lines.
Meanwhile, people that built houses and businesses on wetlands must expect demolitions after the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) ordered them to vacate the land before it institutes prosecutions or demolitions of the buildings once a new law on preservation of wetlands is gazetted.

Just as the COVID-19 pandemic monopolized most of 2020, the rollout of a vaccine and the hope of a return to normalcy it brings will largely be the focus of 2021.
“Our priority will be to continue to protect the community and rebuild the economy and we’ll be working with our community partners to make sure we have safe and equitable vaccine distribution,” Board of Supervisors Chair Heidi Hall said. “We’re not sure yet what that looks like, but I know staff is working on that and taking direction from what the state is planning and then going from there.”

Federalism and energy policy are once again dominating the
national discussion. The situation is complicated by the emergence
of the environment as an important constitutional subject that cuts
across both sides of the division of powers allocated between
federal and provincial governments by the Constitution. Due to
their complexity, courts frequently rely upon flexible
constitutionalism and the doctrine of cooperative federalism to
resolve disputes. This article considers whether the interpretive
tools available to the judiciary are capable of resolving current
issues while preserving the logic and purpose of the balance
