Although earlier forecasts indicated Swiss economy faced a gloomy outlook due to the Covid-19 pandemic, latest figures are more optimistic. In November 2020, Switzerland s Federal Statistical Office indicated a downward trend for 2021. But economist Eric Scheidegger predicts a strong boom for this year, even though some sectors of the economy are still suffering the consequences of the health crisis. âWe expect a strong recovery from the summer onwardsâ, Scheidegger, who is head of the Economic Policy at State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), told NZZ newspaper on Sunday. âSwitzerland could achieve growth of around 4 percent in both 2021 and 2022â, he added.

“The internet is profoundly transforming the dynamics of how people meet,” explained lead author Gina Potarca, a researcher at the University of Geneva’s Institute of Demography and Socioeconomics, in a statement accompanying the study. “It provides an unprecedented abundance of meeting opportunities, and involves minimal effort and no third-party intervention.”

The Swiss tourism industry, rattled by the Covid-19 pandemic, is plotting a hard-fought comeback beginning this winter

According to figures shared by Switzerland’s Federal Statistical Office, last year was a record for the Swiss hotel industry. It recorded 39.6 million overnight stays, up 1.9 per cent year-on-year. Foreign visitors accounted for 21.6 million of those stays, while Swiss nationals registered 17.9 million overnight stays at hotels across the country.
