Biden Administration Determines ConocoPhillips Willow Project ROD Is Legally Sufficient ConocoPhillips’ Alpine facility, which is approximately 30 air miles from the Willow development. ConocoPhillips The US Department of Justice filed a brief on May 26 with the US District Court for Alaska defending the Willow project, a significant energy development within the National Petroleum Reserve of Alaska (NPR-A) on Alaska’s North Slope that has been halted by litigation. The Biden administration in January announced it would review the final Record of Decision (ROD) for the Willow Master Development Plan, approved in October of 2020 by the Trump administration, for consistency with the administration’s initial executive orders on addressing climate change. The administration has finished that review, as well, finding the ROD legally sufficient. Murkowski WASHINGTON (KINY) - The Alaska Tourism Restoration Act was signed into law by President Joe Biden on Monday, May 24. The act temporarily lifts requirements in the Passenger Vessel Services Act and allows all cruise ships to go to Alaska without stopping in Canada or another foreign port. Alaska Representative Don Young and Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan spoke to reporters after the signing. Young said the President was jovial to sign the bill. This bill means a lot to the state of Alaska, about $3 billion and 23,000 jobs, Young said. This is the first time that the Passenger act has been touched in about 135 years. We feel great as a delegation, we got it done in 10 days and it makes us feel quite good.

Princess Cruises to Sail Alaska in July, Ending Yearlong Pause in Operations Photo: Krsto Vulovic / Shutterstock.com.  After news broke on Thursday that the U.S. House of Representatives had unanimously approved a measure that would save the Alaska cruise season, three Carnival Corp. brands wasted no time in reaffirming their intention to sail Alaska this summer. Princess Cruises became one of those brands on Thursday, along with Holland America and Carnival Cruise Line, when it announced that its restart will kick off in Alaska starting in July. The sailings will end Princess’s year-long pause in operations. Princess will sail a slate of seven-day sailings out of Seattle aboard Majestic Princess starting on July 25 and running through Sept. 26, 2021. The sailings include stops in Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and Glacier National Park.

Holland America was one of the first when it announced on Thursday afternoon that it will restart cruising to Alaska in July roundtrip from Seattle aboard Nieuw Amsterdam. The ship will sail ten, seven-day Alaskan Explorer itineraries that will operate from July 24 through Oct. 2. The sailings include calls at Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Sitka, and Ketchikan. Bookings are now open.
