U.S. Sen. Cory Booker said Sunday that the Senate needed to conduct an impeachment trial of Donald Trump even though the president will leave office on Wednesday.
“I believe it is constitutionally dangerous not to proceed,” Booker, a Democrat, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “We just had a president of the United States try to undermine the peaceful transition of power, tried to challenge a fair and free election. And him and his agents from the moments before, from his son to his lawyer, whipping up a crowd to go attack the Capitol. So I believe fundamentally the Senate has an obligation to act.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is complaining about the need for new leadership in the Democratic Party and says the current aging House leaders aren’t preparing young people to succeed them. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi disagrees.

Republican strategist Karl Rove said on this week’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday” that President Donald Trump will be convicted in the Senate with Republicans voting for impeachment if his defense is there was widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
Anchor Chris Wallace asked, “Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell says that he is keeping an open mind about the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump, a big difference, sharp difference, from his clear opposition from the very start of the first impeachment trial just a year ago. What do you think, Karl, are the chances that 17 Senate Republicans, and that’s what it would take if all of the Democrats vote for conviction, 17 Senate Republicans would vote to convict Donald Trump and to keep them from running again?”
