Even in Hawaii, President Obama was rarely seen in the Island s business and formal wear - the aloha shirt. However, one president did have an affinity for the tropical print shirts. Harry S. Truman served as president from 1945 to 1953, and during his administration he began wearing aloha shirts and similar sport shirts while on working vacations in Florida. Kristen Stalling, museum curator of the Harry S. Truman National Historic Site in Independence, Missouri, which includes the home he shared with his wife, Bess. It includes over 60 sport shirts - four of them aloha shirts form Hawaii manufacturers.

Republican Sen. Steve Daines, the extremist junior senator from Montana who shills for the oil and gas industry, met with Rep. Deb Haaland last week and came away saying he will seek to block her nomination as secretary of the Department of Interior. Daines can slow down the process by placing a hold on her nomination, and he has support from Wyoming Republican Sen. John Barrasso (as well as 18 members of the House). But since the Congresswoman only needs a simple majority in the Senate, she is likely to be confirmed as the first American Indian and third woman to hold the Interior post. Both Daines and Barrasso sit on the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.
Indian Country finally sees action on diabetes program

For the first time in a decade, Indian Country will be able to rely on a stable source of funding to address diabetes in tribal and urban communities. But the achievement didn’t come without chaos, courtesy of the current occupant of the White House.
The massive COVID-19 and federal funding bill that became law on Sunday includes a three-year authorization for the Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI). The extension is the longest on record since 2010.
“The program has improved the quality of life for many and saved many lives,” President Jonathan Nez of the Navajo Nation said on Monday. “The three-year reauthorization also provides long-term stability for the program, which is important for long-term planning and strategizing.”
