Wenatchee man who survived coma due to COVID-19 says to take precautions

Juan Hurtado is a 38-year old Wenatchee resident who survived a COVID-19 infection that made its way to his brain. Provided photo WENATCHEE — Juan Hurtado woke up one day in the hospital after three days in a coma with no memory of where he was or about the voices on the phone who said were his parents. He tested positive for COVID-19 on Aug. 13 but that still would not be enough to explain why he suffered seizures or could not recognize his parents voices. Hurtado is one of 6,909 people in Chelan and Douglas counties to test positive for COVID-19. On Aug. 17, he was one of 18 people hospitalized with the virus. The 38-year-old Stemilt orchard supervisor had a clean bill of health before contracting it. During the long hours of harvest season, he dedicated himself fully to his work without injury or sickness.

Board of health must redo vote to offer administrator job

EAST WENATCHEE — The Chelan-Douglas Board of Health will need to vote again Monday on the job offer for its new administrator. The board held a special meeting on Dec. 7 to interview two candidates for health district administrator — Luke Davies and Adebola Hassan — but did not give the 24-hour public notice required by state law on their website, said Chuck Zimmerman, Chelan-Douglas Health District legal counsel. It was due to a bit of confusion at the agency after associate administrator Kandis Boersma quit to take a job with the state Department of Health. Boersma was in charge of publishing meeting announcements.
