The UK is seeing the impacts of the climate emergency hitting “worst case scenario” levels with more extreme weather and flooding, Environment Agency chief executive Sir James Bevan has warned today (Tuesday 23 February) as he urged action to reduce emissions and adapt to the effects of climate change ahead of COP26.
Sir James has set out the increasing challenge that the Environment Agency and the nation are facing in tackling the extreme weather brought by climate change. Speaking at the annual conference of the Association of British Insurers, Sir James has said:

Scott Base s oldest building, a hut built by a Sir Edmund Hillary-led team to Antarctica, was at Frimley School in Hastings on Tuesday – virtually.
Greek Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, in comments to news radio on Tuesday, said a universal lockdown in the country as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic translates into losses of three billion euros on a monthly basis, whereas the losses are currently calculated at 2.7 billion euros monthly.
The Senate, on Tuesday, confirmed the appointment of former service chiefs as non-career ambassadors-designate.

President, Ahmad Lawan, had on February 10, directed the Committee on Foreign Affairs to confirm General Abayomi Olonisakin (retd.) (Ekiti); Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.) (Borno); Vice Admiral Ibok- Ette Ibas (retd.) (Cross River; Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar(retd.) (Bauchi); and Air Vice Marshal Muhammad S. Usman (retd.) (Kano) as non-career ambassadors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
An attempt by the Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, to draw the attention of his colleagues to a petition against their confirmation was stopped by the President of Senate, Ahmad Lawan.
