• Suspected herdsmen attack Abegana IDP camp Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom on Tuesday lamented the continuous killings in the state by suspected herdsmen. Speaking on the attack on Abegana village, which house one of the eight designated Internally Displaced Persons’ camps in the state, Ortom said that 70 people had been killed in Makurdi, Guma and Gwer West local government areas. He said the attack on Abegana IDP camp, where seven people were killed on Tuesday, should make the President, Major General Muhammad Buhari (retd.) to convey security summit to discuss insecurity in the country. Ortom said, “We are being overstretched and the people are fed up. We all cast our votes for President Buhari. He must not continue to be aloof. He must tell us where we are going in this country. The body language of the President shows that he is the President of the Fulani people.”

Jarrod Powell of New York was taken into custody on Monday thanks to tips from the community who identified him as the suspect, police said. Detectives were told Powell was seen at a homeless shelter near where the attack unfolded in East Harlem, and they made the arrest Monday. Police initially said they had charged Powell with two counts of assault, but they upgraded the charges Tuesday afternoon to attempted murder and assault as a hate crime.

Views: 282 Unknown gunmen on Tuesday killed a police officer whose name is yet to be identified at Onueke market in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. An eyewitness, who spoke to journalists on the condition of anonymity, said the unknown gunmen equally set ablaze a car after robbing one of the popular commercial banks located at Onueke market. It was gathered that no fewer than three civilians were reportedly shot and dispossessed of their valuables by the rampaging gunmen who stormed the busy Onueke town. The policeman that was killed, it was gathered, alongside his colleagues, were trying to repel the hoodlums who held the town hostage for more than an hour, but was unluckily shot dead by the robbers.

Boko Haram has taken over our cattle routes, Bello cries out

Gov Sani Bello Niger State Governor,  Sani Bello, on Tuesday said Boko Haram had taken over all the cattle routes and tracks in the Kaure Local Government Area of the state. He also said the insurgent group demolished a local church, abducted women and hoisted their flag in the local government. Bello, while featuring on Political Update, a current affairs programme on NTA,  disclosed that the insurgents had married the abducted women. Describing the situation as worrisome, the governor said the issue of insecurity in the state was not treated with kid gloves. He noted that he had sent out signals in the last two years, adding that the response he got had not been in line with the threats.
