PEDIGREE and Chappie dog foods have been recalled over fears they could contain dangerous levels of vitamin D.
Pet owners who’ve purchased the affected food are being asked to stop feeding it to their dogs.

Here are some of the Pedigree and Chappie dog foods that are being recalled
In extreme cases, exposure to high levels of vitamin D over a long period of time can lead to kidney failure in dogs.
The product recall from parent company Mars Petcare UK includes four different types of Pedigree dry food and one type of Chappie dry food.

These products do not meet our high quality and safety standards and could contain levels of Vitamin D which may cause harm to your pet if consumed over several weeks, so we are taking this proactive step to retrieve the listed products.
We ask consumers who have purchased these specific, affected products to immediately cease feeding it to their pet
and contact our consumer care team for more information.
If you have fed this product to your pet and in the event they are showing signs of illness, such as excessive drinking and urination, we encourage you to seek veterinary advice.
The range will be available through wholesale from January 2021
Mars Petcare is to roll out three of its bestselling petcare lines in new price-marked packs for the convenience channel from January.
The lines are a Pedigree Pouches 12-pack (£3.75), Cesar Trays 8-pack and Sheba Pouches 12-pack (both £4.75).
The supplier said the launch came on the back of research that found 55% of pet owners failed to purchase petfood in convenience stores due to lack of choice.
It also said pet owners spent 26% more on groceries than those without pets, underlining their potential value for retailers.
“After a challenging year for many, we recognise that shopper habits and priorities have changed and we’re adapting our range and recommendations accordingly,” said Mars Petcare UK convenience channel director Alex Smith.
