THE number of coronavirus patients at the Countess of Chester Hospital has hit a new high, as latest figures paint a grim picture of the current Covid situation. Latest available Government data has revealed that as of Wednesday, December 30, 2020, there were 180 confirmed coronavirus patients being treated at the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust - the highest at any point recorded during the pandemic. That figure has risen sharply since Christmas Day, when there were 128 confirmed Covid patients at the hospital trust. Of the 180 patients being treated on December 30, a total of 14 were on mechanical ventilation beds - again, the highest recorded during the pandemic.
A TOTAL of 84 cases of coronavirus were confirmed across Cheshire West and Chester in the latest Government reporting period. It means there has now been 10,535 positive cases in the borough since the start of the pandemic. The weekly infection rate, in the seven-day period up to December 17, now stands at more than 200 per 100,000 people, having stabilised at just over 100 as a result of the second national lockdown. Meanwhile, the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust recorded three coronavirus-related deaths in the latest 24-hour reporting period. NHS England data released this afternoon shows that the deaths sadly occurred yesterday. The Cheshire hospital death toll now stands at 1,111.
