It was a day of recognition for tax compliance and the joy of being honoured. This recognition came from the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
In a bid to encourage compliance and bring more people under the tax net in a country where avoidance and evasion are rampant, the NBR yesterday honoured the highest taxpayers with tax cards and crests for abiding the rules.

As many as 541 people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in five hospitals in Dhaka on Thursday after 26 people were inoculated on the first day of the mass immunisation campaign in Bangladesh.

The two-day piloting of inoculation against Covid-19 ended at five public hospitals in the capital yesterday.
Of the 541 people who got the vaccine shots yesterday, 296 were doctors, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Mizanur Rahman stood still, gazing with awe from the bank of the Padma river at the specialised floating crane laying down the last span on the mega structure yesterday.
As the 150-metre span was finally placed on pillars 12 and 13 at the Mawa end, he was thrilled and elated to see the full structure of the Padma bridge. Look, here is our dream bridge standing tall. What a great engineering feat it is! marvelled Mizanur, pointing to the 6.15km bridge that became fully visible for the first time.
The Padma bridge is not a dream anymore; it s now a reality. The mega bridge is expected to be a huge boon for the underdeveloped south and south-western region of Bangladesh.
