Vietnam’s NA elects prime minister

Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA) adopted a resolution on the election of Pham Minh Chinh as the prime minister for the 2016-2021 tenure on April 5 afternoon.
The resolution won the support of 462 of the 466 legislators present at the sitting, equivalent to 96.25 per cent of the total NA deputies, and took effect immediately after the adoption.
Chinh said in his statement: “I would like to express my gratitude to the National Assembly for the confidence in electing me to be the prime minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This is an honour for me personally, and also a very heavy responsibility entrusted by the [Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)], state and people.
