The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has wrested the Nagarjunasagar Assembly constituency with its candidate Nomula Bhagat winning the by-election with a comfortable majority of over 18,000 votes.
The TRS nominee maintained his lead in all the 25 rounds, barring one round in which he trailed by a slender margin during the counting which commenced early Sunday morning. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of sitting TRS MLA Nomula Narsimhaiah in December last year. While the TRS fielded Mr. Bhagat as its nominee, veteran leader K. Hyderabad, April 29 : Congress party s Telangana unit president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday demanded that the state government include treatment of Covid-19 under Arogyasri, the health insurance scheme for the poor.
Reddy, who has been infected by Covid-19, posted a video message on Twitter from the hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
He said the government should not forget its responsibility to take care of the people who are suffering due to the pandemic and lack of beds, oxygen and medicines.

Senior Congress leader and former minister M Satyanarayana Rao died on Tuesday, party sources said. He was unwell for some time and breathed his last undergoing treatment at the state-run NIMS hospital here at around 2.45 am, they said.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.

Hyderabad, April 25 : The April 30 election to seven urban local bodies in Telangana is drawing more attention for being conducted amid an intense second wave of Covid-19 pandemic than the contest among political parties.
Despite the demands by opposition parties to postpone the polls in view of the massive surge in Covid cases across the state, the State Election Commission (SEC) is going ahead with the conduct of the polls as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government is not in favour of deferring the elections.

Hyderabad: Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday sought a detailed report from the State Election Commission on the holding of polls for the Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations and five municipalities that has been scheduled for April 30.
