What’s the difference between the rapid COVID-19 test and the regular COVID-19 test?
Antigen tests are fast and typically accurate when providing positive results in patients with symptoms. They are less accurate with negative results, so patients may need to follow up with a molecular test if they have COVID symptoms but came back with a negative result from the antigen test. The bottom line is that molecular tests, which usually take a few days to provide results, are the gold standard in COVID-19 testing because they are more accurate.
