Total export value rises 16.7% in 2020

The Kingdom exported $17.21537 billion worth of goods last year, up by 16.72 per cent from $14.74874 billion in 2019, even as the Covid-19 pandemic upended the world economy and slowed global trade to a crawl.
The total value of Cambodian international trade rose by just 2.54 per cent over 2019 to $35.80585 billion, but imports slipped 7.84 per cent to $18.59048 billion in 2020 from $20.17181 billion in the year prior, the Ministry of Commerce said in its 2020 annual performance report.

India trade tumbles 26% in 2020

The trade value between Cambodia and India saw a dramatic 25.81 per cent reduction last year to $190.13 million from 2019’s $256.26 million as the Kingdom embarked on a feasibility study for a free trade agreement (FTA).
Cambodian exports to India were valued at $61.36 million last year, down 5.12 per cent year-on-year from $64.67 million, while imports fell by 32.97 per cent to $128.77 million from $191.59 million in 2019, Ministry of Commerce data show.
Ministry spokesman Pen Sovicheat told The Post on February 25 that trade between the two countries had been on a steady upward trajectory prior to the Covid-19 crisis.

Preparations underway for upcoming elections
Joint efforts have been made to prepare for the upcoming elections, heard a meeting of the National Election Council (NEC) in Hanoi on January 18.
It was reported at the second meeting of the NEC that the council has joined hands with the NA Standing Board, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in the preparation work.
As of January 14, the issuance of documents regarding the elections of deputies to the 15th legislature, and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure has been completed.
Efforts have been made to ensure security and safety for the elections, according to chief of the office of the NEC Nguyen Hanh Phuc. Meanwhile, election committees have been set up swiftly in localities.
