The Police in Ebonyi State have intercepted 753 live ammunition of General-Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) concealed in a sack being transported in a commercial vehicle from Abakaliki in Ebonyi to Umuahia, the Abia capital.
In a statement on Sunday, Force spokesman, Frank Mba said intelligence-driven covert operation was part of efforts by to identify and crack down on criminal networks and supply chains for weapons and ammunition.
Mba disclosed that comprehensive investigations aimed at bringing to book all persons linked to the crime were ongoing.
However, following investigations into the foiled bank robbery on the Onueke branch of a commercial bank in Ebonyi in January 2021, the Police stormed the hideout of suspects located at Oriuzo village in Ezza North Local Government Area.

The police spokesperson, Frank Mba, who made this known in a statement on Sunday evening said the weapons were concealed in a sack being transported in a commercial vehicle from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, to Umuahia in Abia State.
This development comes on the heels of attacks on police officers and other security personnel in Ebonyi and other states in the South-east.
A police statement on Friday said the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, ordered the posting of a new commissioner of police to Anambra State, in addition to making other “strategic” postings in the region.
Notorious bandit leader Auwalun Daudawa, who led the abduction of over 300 students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara, Katsina state, has been killed, government sources confirmed to Channels Television on Friday.
Daudawa had laid down his arms and accepted Governor Bello Matawalle’s peace initiative on February 8.
But a few days ago, it was reported that Daudawa had returned to the forest to continue his banditry.
Confirming his killing to Channels Television via a telephone conversation, the Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs in Zamfara State, Abubakar Dauran said Daudawa left Gusau day two days ago.
He had reportedly told some people that he was going to attend one of his relatives’ wedding.

Notorious bandit leader Auwalun Daudawa who led his gang to abduct over 300 students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara, Katsina State last December has been killed.
The Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs in Zamfara State, Abubakar Dauran, confirmed his death, according to Channels Television.
Daudawa had laid down his arms and accepted Governor Bello Matawalle’s peace initiative in February 2021 but a few days ago, he went back into the trenches to continue his banditry.
Daudawa had surrendered 20 AK-47 rifles, 20 Magazines, one General Purpose Machine Gun, one Rocket-Propelled Grenade and several ammunitions to the Zamfara State government on the day he repented with five of his comrades.

Auwalun Daudawa, the notorious bandit leader who masterminded the abduction of over 300 students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara, Katsina State, has been killed.
Government sources confirmed reports of his death on Friday.
It would be recalled that while President Muhammadu Buhari was in his hometown, Daura, for a short visit, Daudawa and his gang stormed GSSS Kankara, to abduct the students from their hostels.
