GOLD HILL, Ore A Gold Hill man is in police custody Thursday after police say he pulled out a knife in an argument. The incident forced an evacuation of the nearby area.
Neighbors say they heard yelling earlier and were frightened, as things escalated. They say the fight was between a couple and children were present.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the domestic disturbance call around 3:45 pm Thursday afternoon. It was at the corner of Dardanelles Street and 4th Avenue in Gold Hill.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says everyone in the apartment complex and surrounding area were forced to evacuate. The SWAT Team, Jackson County Crisis Negotiators Team, and Jackson County Mental Health all responded.

CARBONDALE, Ill. Southern Illinois University Carbondale will celebrate the achievements of eight individuals with honorary degrees and distinguished service awards during commencement ceremonies May 7-9 at Saluki Stadium.
Dr. Ngozi Ezike, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, will receive an honorary Doctor of Community Health degree during ceremonies honoring College of Applied Sciences and Arts graduates at
noon May 8.
The eight individuals, including Ezike, received SIU Board of Trustees approval. Spring 2021 ceremonies will be in person, following protocols of the Restore Illinois Plan. Social distancing and masks will be required for all participants, guests, and staff. Ceremonies over the three-day celebration will be for spring 2021 graduates along

On Tuesday, members of the Medford Homeless Task Force laid out their plan for helping unsheltered people during severe cold or hot weather, or during unhealthy air quality.
The program will provide a network for resources including bedding, meal preparation, cleaning, and staff trained in de-escalation, that can quickly be deployed to a site, according to Angela Durant with the Medford planning department.
“All of those types of things, churches and their volunteer staff aren’t equipped to handle,” Durant says. “They just can’t do it, as much as they want to. This system is in place to put all those things together in a package deal for other potential sites down the road.”
